Trail Horse Clinic & Test
RESCHEDULED DUE TO COVID19 - WATCH FOR NEW DATE!
This event will likely be rescheduled for 2023!

We will be hosting clinician Rick Shaffer for our first Trail Horse Clinic and Test. Rick was instrumental in developing this program to ensure that everyone can have an enjoyable time while also achieving goals with their horses. Our secondary judge for the Masters level participants is Nola Haupert-Keill. Masters level horses are evaluated both in person by the first judge and by video by the second judge. While this program was designed and supported by the Paso Fino Horse Association, it is open to all breeds! The goal of the program is to highlight the joy of having a well-trained, responsive trail partner.

The clinic portion will be held in the morning and will give an overview of the program as well as demonstrate some of the tasks that horses and riders will be asked to perform. After lunch, the participants will each demonstrate the abilities of their horses against a standard in each category of tasks. Categories include trailer loading/unloading, grooming & tacking, ground work exercises, performance on the trail, maneuvering through trail obstacles, and temperament & attitude of the horse. Horses can be tested at the Junior, Senior, and Master levels. The horse must receive a passing score prior to moving on to the next level, but riders can elect to be evaluated at the Junior and Senior level during the same test. At each advancing level, the horse is expected to be more reponsive and willing to perform each task fluidly without hesitation. At the end of the test, participants will receive their evaluation card so they can see what they are excelling at and which elements need improvement prior to the next test. Participants also receive prizes from PFHA after completing each level!

This promises to be a fun, interactive event and we hope to see you there! Contact us for more information or to reserve your spot. Spaces are limited!

Clinic participants learned a lot about proper equitation, the correct way to communicate effectively with the horse, and more! The Northern Ohio Outlaws, an all-breed mounted shooting group, gave a fantastic demo during the mounted shooting portion of the clinic. Clinic participants got to learn about gun safety, how to properly and safely begin to acclimate the horse to the sound of gunfire, and more! Everyone had a blast! For more event pictures, check out our Facebook page. We are hoping to host another exciting clinic next year!
